December 2010 started out with a little fun! I attended a lighting workshop with a pretty popular wedding photography couple out of Tennessee (Zach & Jody from Gray Photography). Here are a few shots from the day long festivities.
There were about 25 other photographers at the event.
Monday - start of week 9! Painters finished their work today - including all the door prep and painting. Walls are all done. The color came out a lot lighter than we had expected, but we're going with it for now and waiting to make a final judgement once we have the carpeting and floors in. Mark may be doing some painting in the future though, cause it's looking pretty light in there (which is not totally bad - opens up the room nicely).
I had NOTHING to do with the paint selection of Jake's room below. Karin let the kids go with there own color selection and this is what he went with (Clearwater Blue). It is a VERY blue room. We're going to have to load it with a lot of darker curtains, bedspread, etc. Karin's actually with the kids right now buying some dark blue Star Wars bedding. :-)
Jazzy's selection was this nice light purple.
Looking down the hallway. The final sun tunnel installs will happen this week, so hopefully we'll see some light down there soon.
Painters started today and will work throughout the weekend. Too much paint smoke in the air to take pictures. They prepped the house all day today and part of Saturday.
Monday - they finished wrapping up the new electrical panel in prep for stucco.
Note the periscope PG&E installed on the top of the house. This is what took them weeks to get scheduled - they needed to update electrical feed to raise it farther above the house.
The cabinets have been installed in the kids bathroom - unfortunately there is no light available to take pictures.
A lighter picture of the kids bathroom cabinets.
The cabinets in the master bath. Unfortunately the angle in the house resulted in a mismatch of cabinetry (which we knew). Of course, my side will be the smaller vanity on the right.
End of week 7! This images were actually taken on Saturday (Halloween).
The tile has arrived! Boxes and boxes of tile!
Jazzy and Jake are checking out the texture work.
Note the tree on the right of the driveway is not GONE! I had a guy give me a quote on Friday. Confirmed that we wanted to work with him and asked for a date that he could come out to remove the tree. He said he'd get back to me on Monday - however, we got a call from him on Saturday (literally 2 hours after taking the above pictures) saying that he "did the job". I was worried that he actually did the wrong house, as we just left there a few hours earlier, but I ran over to the house and sure enough - it was gone! Within a day - how cool is that! We took out the tree as we plan on extending the driveway with pavers, to allow for more parking.
After several weeks of dealing with PG&E they finally showed up to shut down the power so our electrician could install are new 200Amp panel (upgrading from 100Amp). Since there was no power at the house while this work was being done, they couldn't do anything on the inside, so the only thing happening today was the electrical box.
Not much going on this week, but I thought I'd take a picture of our lovely - soon to be removed - driveway. Talk about screwed up! We're going to be getting rid of this puppy. Also note the tree in the upper right by the port-o-potty - that tree will shortly be gone as well.
The start of another week.....did not start too well. Found out we have a 3" clean-out for the sewer piping - we're required to have a 4" pipe. Long story short - we're going to have to rip up the driveway and install a new pipe - our 2nd big whammy in this remodel (the first being the requirement for an upgraded electrical panel).
The new doors are in! (I love this picture - check out the window, it looks slanted - the frame in front of it is actually leaning, but the camera angle made it straight, thus making the windows look slanted).
Jake went with me to the house today.
Jake's in one of our future cabinet areas in the office.
More drywall work.
Check out how nice and wide open that hallway is now!
Not a lot to share today as the drywall process takes several days to complete. You can see they started doing some of the taping - next week they'll continue the process, putting on the mud and evening out the cracks, etc.
Next week will be a busy week! Doors come in on Monday, cabinets on Tuesday, carpet guy comes on Tuesday to measure the rooms, some sewer inspection work, etc...
That space there will hold our hallway cabinet - just outside the 1/2 bath (and nicely hidden, as you cannot see it from the front of the house when looking down the hallway.
