Day 5

Sept 21st

This is the first day that we were officially out of the house and the contractor could go to town - and boy did he! Just like that, our beautiful white cabinets have been removed.

Wall? What wall?

Jake's staring into the deep dark abyss. One of the concerns was how to anchor the new addition to the house. This was accomplished by actually digging UNDER the existing foundation and pouring cement, then putting rebar through both foundations. TON of work.

The first layer of dirt you are looking at below is actually floor of our crawl space. The dark scary place is the addition 2-3 feet to get under the existing foundation. I was waiting for them to pull of some old dinosaur bones and halt the construction.

3 foot foundation - seems pretty solid to me!

Check out the crazy rebar work they needed to do to get cement around the tree root.

More rebar work completed.

Here's where the white cabinets were. Note - you can still see electrical socket for the dryer as well as the old water hookups. And check out the ugly fake brick linoleum that lay under our carpet. Our contractor Garth was so grossed out by it that he had his guys rip it all up. Normally they would just carpet over it like they did before - but he couldn't stand it. :-) Gotta love this guy!

Here's the old master bedroom. Jazzy & Jake used this bathroom as well, since their bedroom was right across the hall, so we had 4 people using one sink and bathroom. When we're all done - everyone will have their own sink! Note - Jake's standing in the old master bedroom closet that will soon become their toilet/shower-bath area.

More demo and prepping the back bathroom for deconstruction tomorrow.

Jazzy's working on her Monday homework, while Mommy & Daddy are still moving a few things out of the kitchen.
